No one made BP in old school way... Wooden mallet in a big stone mortar, 5 to 10 % moisture minutes of hammering for gram. For century BP was made like that. As far as placement of your mill, the ideal distance is probably around 150ft or more away from any buildings of any sort. If you can barricade it that's even better (things like sandbags). Just make sure you don't block off air to the motor. When making black powder there is always a chance for it to go off.
